Hillsborough Kids, Inc. (HKI) is a non-profit agency created out of a three-year community planning process specifically to perform the duties of the Lead Agency for Community-Based Care in Hillsborough County.
HKI Mission: To ensure the safety and permanency of abused and neglected children in Hillsborough County by providing comprehensive services that promote strong families.

HKI is governed by a Board of Directors specifically selected to represent the Hillsborough community in developing and overseeing the child protection system of care.
As the lead agency, HKI holds the contract for all child protection services previously performed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office provides Child Protection Investigations previously performed by DCF. HKI is responsible for administrative services including financial management, contract oversight, data services, communications, quality assurance, training and diversion services.
Direct case management services for children and their families are performed by a network of local community-based agencies including Camelot Community Care, Children's Home Inc., Children's Home Society, Devereux, Gulf Coast Community Care, and Youth and Family Alternatives. Mental Health Care, Inc. provides intensive crisis intervention services for the system of care. Many other partner agencies and providers deliver very important services and supports for our families.
