Quality Parenting Initiative
The Quality Parenting Initiative is a statewide initiative designed to promote quality care for children in foster care by redefining the expectations and roles of foster parents. Hillsborough Kids is one of the first three pilot CBC’s to embrace QPI, and is committed to this ongoing foster care reform. As a result of QPI, Hillsborough Kids has identified Foster Parent Recruitment and Retention as one of our mission critical goals. Additionally, the following brand statement was adopted to articulate what fostering means in the Hillsborough Kids system of care:

Foster Parents Are Valued and Respected Partners within Our Community
Fostering means nurturing a child and mentoring and supporting the entire family, teaching them to be healthy.
Healthy families today mean stronger communities tomorrow.
Foster parents can change the world – one family at a time.

QPI has also resulted in the development of innovative tools for foster parents to gain access to relevant and ongoing training resources. Through a collaboration with the USF Center for the Advancement of Child Welfare, Just in Time training was created for foster parents. Just in Time training is accessed at QPIflorida.com and offers a wide variety of training topics including live webinars.
