Message from HKI President & CEO Highlights from fiscal year 2007-2008
Dear Community Partners,
HKI had another great year improving the lives of the children and families we serve. Our partnerships with our community continue to produce great outcomes for kids.
The HKI system of care has become a leader in creative and innovative thinking. We are fortunate to have so many of us willing to step outside the box in order to improve our system of care.
For instance, this year, we experienced a 50% decrease in the number of children entering our system. We served over 4,000 children through our diversion services, with the goal of maintaining the families safely intact. These results are attributable to our community collaborations with a multitude of services provided.
We also “jumped” into the area of high-tech tools to assist our care managers by eliminating some of the redundancies of their job. In partnership with Mindshare Technology, we created numerous systems that were recognized by the Secretary of the Department of Children and Families and the Governor.
Once again, we were a statewide leader in adoptions, finalizing 422 forever families. We have added the faith-based community in our efforts to recruit and retain foster and adoptive parents. It is a blessing how our faith-based community is ready and willing to step up for our children.
It is always fun to be able to slow down and reflect on the many successes of our community. At the same time, we must always realize the many challenges that are presented to us daily. We can never take our eyes off of the tremendous mission we have been charged with.
Thanks to all of you who work so diligently to serve our community’s children and families.
Jeff Rainey
President/CEO
